How long will you cherish
this trophy you dressed in night shades,
a winter sparrow weighted with stone
that left holy air, fell through the stars
into your sculpture of moonlight?

Plucked from the white altar
of their innocence, you choose
the wounded to sacrifice
in the darkness of your dangerous rooms.

You practice your cruel charity on bodiless souls,
in the vacancy of false paradise,
turning sparrow to dove, dove into bone
you bury at dawn beneath the stain of your existence.
