I blankly stare at the hand of rescue stretched to me, The only bit of light in the darkness where I dwell. My head tilts as I contemplate it. I know its purpose, what it’s doing there, But do I want to risk accepting it? All I would have to do is extend my hand towards it And with one small gesture of consent, All my cares would be whisked away And replaced with eternal bliss and contentment. But there is so much uncertainty in that one gesture. Performing it would mean the end of my horrible life as I know it, The solution to the fears that have plagued me. That one move would be the end of this hell that I’m forced to call life, My redemption from this purgatory. I consider all of this during those brief moments of examination. In the end, though, the answer comes easily to me. The hand remains silently extended towards me, Awaiting my answer. Resolute in my decision, I smirk cynically at the offered hand Before turning on my heel And continuing to walk deeper into the darkness Without so much as a backward glance. ~~Poetry is written emotion~~ |

I love this poem. Walking away from redemption further into the darkness... This is going to my favorites! You do dark poetry proud. ![]() Lots of Luv Kira ~Should the truth be so buried in the endless cemetery of broken dreams?~ |

Exelent. I relate so well, sadly... change is leaving the familar, and we are sometimes unwiling to leave it, even if it's horrible. |
