Delirium From the safety of my bed, my room, My empty house I can stop by the stone, the eroding stone On once, many years ago My name could be easily seen. And I, thrilled after avoiding the stone Since it was placed years ago See it as a sign, such a beautiful sign Of new life, of new light, of new hope. So I lie back from my motionless journey To imagine all the roads I can travel now that I’ve left the world Without meaning beneath the stone As a voice comes to me In the darkness and haze To whisper what I’ve known “A life anew? Why you get none. We have far better in store. New life means another chance to die, And you wouldn’t want that, Would you?” So from the place I thought was safe I creep back beneath the stone That long ago once held my name But now, no longer does. A simple field it’s all become, Overgrown and faded. Who could ever dream to guess, Now that the stone is just a stone With nothing imagined underneath That once there was the memory of life… |
