I was sitting at the beach listening to classical,
not much of surf day but the sea was an incredible
rippling iridescent cobalt, when up pulls this cab
with a middle-aged, overdressed couple.
Tourists. Had to be.

The guy in the back seat opens the door
hops out, takes a few pics with a digital,
hops back in, leaves quick as that kicking up sand.
The woman never got out, never turned her head to look out at
the incredible blue taffeta sea.
Tourists. Had to be.

I headed home by my usual route that follows the shore
along the craggy coast.  When I got to the cove where every fall
I watch the ducks and loons feed on their autumn journey
lake to sea and far beyond, there was that guy standing beside
the idling cab illegally parked, taking more pics with his digital
while the woman in back freshened her lipstick,
snapped shut her compact, never once glanced at
the incredible blue taffeta sea.
Tourists. Had to be.

At the last stop that tops off my lunch hour with a view
of the lighthouse where surf crashes over rock even on calm days,
the place where I dream that I live on one of the Orkneys
in a stone cottage not far from the shore where I  walk
keeping watch for my fisherman to return home from the sea,
there was that guy stealing my dreams with his digital
as his wife walked to the restroom never once looking toward
that incredible blue taffeta sea.
Tourists. Had to be.

(not really a poem just a whatever)

An enjoyable read, that's what it is.
I like the way you portrayed these two, and have seen such scenes myself.
Glad that you didn't let them stop your eyes from embracing the memory of a taffeta sea.
