I have no appetite for sustenance from these rising signs, of a neon-light of life lived in hype, nervous conditions are re-created. That's when the bombs come, and the drums of rage that pulse through the blood, skipping the seconds, as the first beat stops. Killing myself, feeling unsatisfied yet, no food can pass as long as what's offered is full of crap, I'll rush on the drop. Real hallucinations will then take shape, due to the racked lack of ingredients I think I can fly... hear the break of this fast, and hit the ground. People, I'm sorry for this exodus of blood red silence, twisting empty guts, means barely able. [This message has been edited by kif kif (07-29-2006 12:11 PM).] |

Very powerfull words, and quite haunting! i enjoyed it a lot. Especially the part about hallucinations, i have suffered from these and can relate. A very good write. Keep it up! But id like to ask, are you perhaps not sim,ply speaking of normal hunger? But perhaps a hunger of the soul and heart aswell? hells gate reads Abandon hope all ye that enter here |

Thanks Digital, and yes, I'm talking about the hunger of fear/terror. Also, it's a comment about globalisation-the Macdonald's style taste for blandness puts me right off (e numbers, colourants, sugary bread, all under the roof of the super-market, hyper-mall)...that's not food, it's a depressant/oppressant, or, like a friend said "the sh*t that goes in is the same as the sh*t that comes out"...to paraphrase. Nice poem. Not sure I understood it. Sounds kinda like a guy addicted to drugs mourning the fact that the only thing that sustains him is the drugs, and they're just full of crap -- no real nutritional value. Know what I mean? |

Ok. I might be reading too much here, but after reading it again (and reading your statement about globilisation) Are you perhaps also referring to human nature? What i mean is are you implying perhaps that despite the hollow emptyness we recieve. That we should better ourselves? That we should not simply put out the same as what we get in? But rather change it and give out something better and not just the same sh*t hells gate reads Abandon hope all ye that enter here shall we go? the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Will you walk with me? |

Interesting, and valid interpretations, Digital and Philmont. For me, this is a riposte to the "I can't understand them/others" chant that reverberates everywhere. This poem is the rage of the oppressed. It's about a greedy struggle for dominion of resources (as places like wall-mart force out local markets, and fresh, air-mile free produce, the global and personal mechanisms of war demand total reliance on imported supply). In anorexia, the personal dominion is taken back by the sufferer...he or she decides what goes into their body, but that very action destroys them. It's difficult to explain...but it's not a write that implies anything but the effects of having the choice of bad food or starvation, and choosing starvation. quote:Well i hadnt looked at it in that light. I didnt look at it as a poem in retaliation or perhaps defiance. but after mentioning it yes it could be looked at as such quote: Ah well the question i ask here is, Is the food perhaps not so bad (not just bad but perhaps evil etc) that starvation is perhaps a bettr choice over the food that will corrupt? quote:For this i commend you! Speaking out for those who cannot do so themselves is Brilliant! hells gate reads Abandon hope all ye that enter here |

KifKif: I'm beginning to like the way you think. I know I should be nice and offer the tag line "oh, but there's a third way out and that's moderation!" but I won't. I'll let someone else do that. For me, I'll side with desparation for a while. Heck, maybe this sort of bipolar desparation is symptomatic of another disorder that can also manifest itself in bipolar forms! *hint hint* |

Yes Philmont, there is moderation, but that's usually administered by 'the right'. One man's moderation is another's excess? You're on target with the desperation, and that ties in with Digital's comment about rejecting the 'bad food', which leads to starvation. When a person's in the throes of starvation, physical and mental hallucinations happen. Digital, the question you ask about starvation being 'better'...yikes-I don't have the answers, only the notices. I doubt there is any good choice in bad and bad, though. (I don't write looking for a way out, I write what's here, now. Whether that's good is another matter, but I don't feel qualified to preach a lifestyle, I can only describe the lifestyles in action right now.) The bi-polar angle could be an analogy for war. The English poet John Keats coined the title-Negative Capability, a poetic capacity to efface one's own mental identity by immersing it sympathetically and spontaneously within the subject described; but I also thought how well it works literally. Thanks for getting involved-I'm getting to know my writing better through talking to you two. |

But we are told that nothing in moderation is harmfull. So between say Desperation and a bad choice. What if we say simply introduce another option. Rather than starving, or forcing yourself to take something in order to survive, Why not simply reject both options entirely and search for something better? Coming back too food, instead of starvation or bad food. Go out and look for a carrot say? But interesting enough, by not choosing here you choose one of the options... quote:Thats the best way of writing. And dont let anyone determine for you what is good or bad. That is something you must decide hells gate reads Abandon hope all ye that enter here shall we go? the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Will you walk with me? |

What if there was no means of searching for something better? What if bad food is all there was? Off track for a moment-look at when natural disasters are warned. The middle-classes and the rich can hop into their SUV's and vamos. The poor have nowhere, and no means to go...and have to rely on the authorities, who pile them into sports halls, stuff them with Macdonalds, and tell them to 'sit tight'. Sometimes, I think the only choice is to accept the position, or rebel against it. |

ps "we are told that nothing in moderation is harmful"...by whom? Those that want to keep others down? What about nuclear bombs? What about hate-speech? What about physical and mental abuse? Some things, in moderation, are harmful, and have the capacity to become deadly. It's an interesting thought though, one that will keep me thinking for a while! |
