Not a penny in my pocket, Nor place to lay my head, The days are never ending, All filled with sense of dread. No one dares employ me, At times I'm forced to steal To buy a coat to keep me warm, Or some kind of a meal. Nothing to do, nowhere to go, I live from block to block, Happiness has passed me by, Only heard, the ticking clock. Hopes are all but shattered, Youthful dreams are gone, It's hard to rise above despair, With nothing to pull upon. Trying just to snap the chains, Hoping for a chance, Yet people just feel "sorry" for me, Not given a second glance. Sometimes I get a handout, To ease a troubled mind, But most of my belongings Are the things that I can find. I've heard about the bootstraps, Barely out of reach, Life is creeping up on me, Without a trick to teach. Society has shunned me, I missed the school of knocks, Surviving to the end of days, Living in my box. |

I see what you're saying with this one. Its irritating though. Most of the homeless people I see are either into drugs, alcohol, or smoke. In other words they blow their money. I've been blowing my money on starbucks, but being out of money will probably change that. Actually I think being homeless would have some really good things it could teach me. But its incredibly rediculous though, because there are programs to help homeless people. Maybe its like Jesus... He can't help people until they turn to him and since they don't they live in spiritual poverty. Yeah, and manju's word makes his entire statement void in my mind. How can someone give governmental advise using profanity and still think its good advise? Sounds like a "plank in the eye" thing. I probably shouldn't have made such a long response, but this poem which was really good and its other poor response gave me alot to say. -GIS Praise the eternal reign, the Father; Jesus Christ; and the Holy Spirit. |

i love how you have captured this....not every homeless person out there is on drugs, or alcohol, or smoke, some are out there because they truly have no where else to go, some are out there because they choose to be, yes you read that right....they choose to be for what ever their reason might be it is not an easy life and should not be scoffed at. and even if i'm not supposed to say it....Jesus is always there, it is up to us to let Him in so He can care for us the way we want and need to be cared for. good write Annie there is but a short time to exist, love, laugh, live and never stop believing in miracles |

This that you describe can happen so quickly--to just about anyone. A very thoughtful write, and I thank you for sharing. |
