I thought I'd take a little time- Prioritize my life. Do I have time for pleasure- For children, or a wife? I never take vacations... That's time I can't afford... No time to have religion- Nor devotion to the Lord. I think somewhere I missed the point- Some slot I did not give... Within my busy schedule, To take time out to live. I recall a desert sunrise... And coffee on the fire... The sweet, dry smell of sage in bloom.. Fulfilled my heart's desire. Of working long hard hours- For very little pay- With a sense of satisfaction, At the end of every day. I think sometimes that I have gone, And really played the fool... In seeking fame and fortune... In the "dog eat dog world" school. I long for Arizona- In those far off cowboy days... And the easy gaited living- And the bunkhouse dwelling ways. |

I think we all wish for something simpler than what we have. We just don't say it as nicely as you did here. ![]() ~sky Dreams last for so long, even after you're gone... |

By your description, I'd say you've lived a life that many dream of, and fantasize about, yet I know it wasn't easy. To sleep out under the stars, with the scent of sage and the sounds of horses neighing... don't fret for a moment, John, for I believe you chose the path that was right for you. and of course, life still continues, so why not head on down the trail after a few more adventures? There is no limit to the length of the trail except the one you (or God?) place on it. I enjoy your poetry, cowboy. Please keep writing for those of us who ride the highways on four wheels, imagining four legs and a saddle instead. LOL, got carried away because I just spent the last twenty minutes looking at photos of BLM wild mustangs. |

Your poem is a song to many people. For me I hope I can die without wishing for anything more than I had. Great write. ~~~Gaurdurthoughts~~~ |

beautifully done, Sir. You have been missed. ![]() Although this poem wishes for something different, it still describes what it does have in a most inviting and wonderful way. Makes me think I'd have a hard time choosing which made me the happiest. Lovely and...welcome back... All of my impurities are right here on my sleeve. This is Me"---Faith Hill |

Very well written. You say what we all feel sometimes. Remember that as long as you can breathe you can always change things. |
