in the shadows

Cold grey morning sky,
and I am too tired
to get completely dressed;
the rest of the house denizens
are snoring in their dreams;
the poor sky's not even really grey,
more like inverse background
after sleeping screams
in fading phantasms
where I'm already dead,
more like pastel black ‘round the edges
and pale in toward the center
where the ice never melts;
if I can get this headache down
to human size I may just go on back to bed
and try to keep my eyes closed;
shotguns on the river
woke me up with their salutes,
some good old boys
in real John Kerry coats,
not the tailored dry cleaned kind
covering their suits,
didn't think I'd mind them
skulking in cahoots
shooting coots and pintails
from their floating blind,
with wild turkeys watching calendars
chuckling their thanks,
and coyotes laughing at them
from the muddy river's littered banks.

Wonderful imagery...excellent write.
Much enjoyed the read sir.

Good morning, icebox

"the poor sky's not even really grey,
more like inverse background
after sleeping screams
in fading phantasms
where I'm already dead,"

very descriptive!  I hope your headache is better.  *hug*

A deep reflection ... makes me sad and this is to tell you how powerfully you write.

Sending you healing energy for the headache to vanish ....

Love, Margherita

First off -- great write, you descriptions are complete!  Second, you can't be dead if your write so well!  Thirdly, I appreciated your writing as I feel like this sometimes -- but I am hoping that the sky turns itself back around and pours some springtime blossom through your window pain.

I just love how this sounds.  It is funny, but so real and understandable.  Fun to read you today.  I read you with sarcasm, so as to lighten some areas that are grey...I hope that's okay!
