"Tonight the caustic wind, love,
   Gossips late and soon,
And I wear the wry-faced pucker of
    The sour lemon moon."
            -Sylvia Plath "Jilted"

Sun, wind
fused,
suffice to soothe
as human hands
but not for us

Drawn to dull percussions
of a sea that steals
the sand on which we stand
is closer to our truth.

No, we're voyeurs
who need a view
to the point of dizzy peril
or go blind,

seek to sing
soprano and bass
at once

and understand an urge
to eat our paintings.

We delve beyond the flowers
to the root
and feign shrill outrage
when hands are raised soiled.

You wouldn't like it here.
Full obsession's found foul,
(now sterile co-dependence)
desires drugged to dull
by whitecoats watching watches.

I remain because of unabashed
outward imperfection,
refusal to love
any stronger than I
and know the irony
of a decision made
"for good"

(smiles) God Bless You, sweet friend, we all must be voyeurs but when we're given permission, we can touch a heart as gentle saboteurs then all at once let it rest! (big angel hugs) I love it, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Richard, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Very sad, and this kind of irony really can hurt.  Nice reading you again Richard.

Sunshine....Thank you for your always generous reply

Enchantress.....Hugs to you as well, Thanks

Midnitesun.......I'm unable anymore to write much that would be classified otherwise. Wish I could be more frivolous. Thanks

Helen.......No greater compliment could be recieved than to know someone was moved or provoked to reflection by my modest scribblings. Thanks (and hope you are well)

Noah.......Your kind heart is found soothing by many here and cannot be denied. Thanks

Sharon......One can get used to pain and depression. The danger is in enjoying it or longing for it. I like to think that I merely bring it to light to be examined in truth, accepted and dealt with sans the drugs that would dull its edge. Thanks

inkedgodess......I appreciate the comment (particularly since we got off on the wrong foot long ago)...no, I haven't seen the movie. It wasn't in theatres long. I'll rent it when available. It must have been watered down a bit Since Hughes/Plath's daughter wouldn't permit much of her poetry to enter. I do have some great books by and about her and this poem was written as a sort of statement to her. I realize I've sabatoged relationships by trying to control or 'want' it too much which can become a self-fulfilling failure that may indeed be what was desired (that sweet pain, self induced) As intelligent and sensitive as she was it behooves me how she allowed it to overwhelm her to the point that she took her own life (while her small children were in house no less) It is that act which disappoints an otherwise ardent admirer of her worthy talent.

Marti.......Thank you. Even a word of notice from you speaks volumes.

Sad to say, but maybe you have to be a woman, because I do (understand) why...it was her art, her call......to die
read: below my tribute to her beautiful and tormented spirit

and mr. wells.........sssshhhhhh
"wrong foot"......lol,
