God Bless You Captain Kangaroo picture courtesy of www.tvparty.com I remember when I was young, Running home after school. I’d watch a show on CBS That for that time was really cool. Every day he’d be there, In his pockets something new. Every child learned something Before that hour was through. For forty years he entertained I watched it again with my son, Nothing had even changed a bit, Captain Kangaroo was still such fun. Shows lost ~ Mr. Rogers, The Fonz, Howdy Doody, and the Beaver. I miss those days of clean family tv Like the Bradys’ and each Cleaver. Two generations felt a loss today, Recalling many hours spent. So this little poem is for The Captain, With our sincere God bless you sent. ~* Captain Kangaroo aired from 1955 – 1985 *~ He continued his work to see children's programs were suitable until the day he died. Bob Keeshan, who lived in Hatford, VT, has died at age 76 from a long illness, according to his family. ~ Blessed Be ~ [This message has been edited by Mysteria (01-25-2004 04:57 PM).] |

I loved Captain Kangaroo (and Mr. Green Jeans and Bunny Rabbit). They were my toddler "Today Show". |

Just back for a second glance...is Henry Winkler deceased? Is that the fonz you were referring to? Or did you just mean our loss of his character? Just curious! McLean |

I wondered the same thing McLean...but then, to be honest, I thought Captain Kangaroo had already died. |

The Captain touched a great many lives. He influenced childrens' programming on television and helped to promote television is an educational tool. He will be missed..but not forgotten. believe in what your heart feels... |

The Captain was one of my favorites-I loved the show, especially when he and Mr. Green-jeans would have a dialogue. Thank you for writing this tribute. Sadelite |

Hi! To clarify - no Henry Winkler is still with us as are most of the characters of the Brady Bunch, and even The Beaver, but it seems I have reached the age where I am indeed loosing all my childhood icons, and Mr. Dress-Up was another lost last year. It is so sad that kids have so little live entertainment now, compared to the 50's, 60's, and 70's. Those were indeed "the days!" |

I remember watching him in the morning while waiting for the school bus. He never talked down to kids and I loved everyone on it..especially Mr. Greenjeans. |

He was indeed a valuable addition to television and beyond, and yes a darn good babysitter on many an occasion I just found out you have school buses in the States, and now I feel I didn't have a full childhood LOL. We don't have them here or at least not that I am aware of anyway? |

My "first" TV memory was of Sheriff John. Soon to be followed by Captain Kangaroo...Howdy Doody...and then the nostalgia shows of the early 70's giving us back the '50's. I know so many people feel that yesterday wasn't as good as today...and some, vice-versa. But we sure had a lot of good people giving us a lot of good, moral lessons back then. Can't find much of that on TV today. Sigh. Say Hello to the good folks for us, Bob... |

Mysteria, here's another fan of those days......Captain Kangaroo, Howdy Doody, Andy Griffith, The Brady Bunch, Happy Days.....and so many more. What happened to all the good ideas for the programs? This is a very good tribute to the Captain as well as the others. Thank you. And, you don't have school buses in Canada? I didn't know that. We used to have fun on the school bus. LOL That was exactly why I never even thought of being a school bus driver!! LOL Hugs, Ethel |

(big angel hugs) God Bless You, dearest friend, it saddens me missing some of the best children's entertainers that have ever lived, including him and Mister Rogers, and I only hope his loving torch is carried on to others and inspires others who can offer unadulterated, innocent children's entertainment! (kiss on cheek) I never lived to get to see all his early episodes but I love watching the syndication of his wonderful show, I love it, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Sharon, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "You'll find something that's enough to keep you But if the bright lights don't receive you You should turn yourself around and come back home" MB20 |

The undiluted Good cannot be denied. How innocent those times seem. But how distant. In truth, off camera in the real world we always had evil working hard, even in those 50's. I do tear (however macho slightly) at the loss of the Bob Hopes, Captain Kangaroos and Mr. Rogers of our world (and you almost gave me a heart attack by mentioning the 'Beaver' who I met, was photographed with and still have a cherished autograph. I had to jump to Google to make certain he was still with us) We all appreciate the salute. |

LOL, fixed that line Richard! It doesn't rhyme but just for you - I fixed it It is so sad, that as a baby boomer I have to witness the loss of all those great old entertainers. Each time I hear of another, the sadness grows and never seems to go away. I have had it up to here with reality t.v. |
