Surrender with a Sigh

Hidden in this heirloom,
keepsakes bureau’d for me.
Just an antique catcher
of lasting memories.

Sachet’d by potpourri,
scented in yellowed time,
people, places pictured
in poems penned in rhyme.

Each touched by its own wand,
perfumed by yesterday,
a lifetime of love and living
in drawers of disarray.

Though tucked in one corner
with such apparent care,
a handkerchief folded,
pressed to a perfect square.

Again to know its solace,
I trace fingers across its lace
To breath in its sweet comfort
I brush frill against my face.

This weave my soul once held,
then soaked in salted sorrow
of tears of yesteryears
and promises of tomorrow

Now once again this lace
could dry a teary eye.
Yet I’d rather waive the white
and surrender with a sigh.

Patricia~
This poem is of special significance to me ... without knowing ... you knew and I am so pleased to have printed this one out and tucked it in a special drawer that holds my collection of laced memoried handkerchiefs of the past~

Thank you~

Patricia.. this is just so very lovely...
what a pleasure to read aloud...delicate images wrapped in rhyme...lovely indeed.

How foolish must man be, not to be impressed by mountains and trees
not to be brought to his knees by the beauty of the sky and sea
