Winter Meal

junco like a bobble-head
rhythmically dips
from an earth-shaking hunger

pecking seeds
as a toothpick-bird
not getting any younger

winter is
a time to search
for his inanimate prey

I wonder
how much he’ll eat
by the end of day

starling waits
upon the eave
for what he might espy

hungry as
a bear in spring
he flits as junco flies

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Loved the descriptiveness.

Cold hands means a warm heart

passing shadows
