I have been trying to figure out
what it is that I haven't been able to feel

I have been containing myself
here within my own personal
reality check...

    {and I kept running
    towards the answer
    that I wanted to find,}

while fleeing

from the one that I already knew...

In my hurry I tripped and fell
over my own self induced obstacles
until there was no place left
to run,

because the truth can not be out run...

I stood in the sunlight
for a few moments of linger
trying to capture the warmth,

to chase away the chill
of realizations
that in wanting so badly
to be something more to you,

I had failed to remember
to be your friend...

I have failed you...
and myself...

It's better than I could have planned..
it's made me who I am...

I liked the way you worded this. Something, I think, most people can identifiy with, maybe because we have our own built-in defense mechanisms.

(big angel hugs) I can relate to this too well, as the friendship must always live on if any relationship will ever work out, that is the golden rule in these arrangements! Donna, this is so beautiful....and I can certainly relate. I've made this same mistake before. I hope that in my relationship with my Love now that I have learned from my mistakes. I am certainly trying. We were best friends before we fell in love, and we are still keeping that part of our relationship, too.

I hope that you will find this kind of relationship, my friend....if you haven't already.
