Winters Adversity Bring Out The Beast In Me |

A beast inside stirs awake, comes alive Winter wind reminds my animal self, It holds still yet a spark of savage life; A pack of wolfs unzip my human skin, it falls And claws, grow long to grip at blood-raw flesh; Assisted by rebirth of canine fangs within Elongated, Lobos jaws.... I stride with them. Ten below, and the wind chutes north, Northwest, in gusts to thirty five... * There is no holding back, A howl will rise from the call of the wild... * From lung depths, comes a need to sing A primal song that challenges the moon Now showing animates of swaying trees: To find another, blood-letting brother. I step into its light and feel the need to ape The great white bear that bides on flowing ice, Lumbering in his stride and making All who sign his path to shake in fear.... Ptarmigan-walrus and rabbit, harbor seal And mice. * Warm blue eyes turn opaque white, The frozen glaze of night, bars need of optic lens And the creed that Adam broke in Eden's light Comes in to pointed ears, on close-drawn Isobars of static winds, of instinct fright: Releasing in the visions sense the urge and need To kill, but not as Kane, who-was foul tricked, The first of men to murder human kin; Allowed by a God who instigated every pain and sin.... * Only to stay alive, my fangs rip flesh and hides, And when aligned with those whose choice is war To perpetrate what thoughts are right; My inner beast stands high Above them in civility, above the laws of books Of men, my beastly self resides. |

P-Shadows Thank you...the inner beast is always very deep and powerful...sometimes it surfaces, as it did in this poem.... * Martie This poem was thought up while ice fishing..(which has been very good lately..:-)..) The wind was very high, and sending snow-clones twisting everywhere, in a Lake effect white-out I began to howl and yell to the wind...."I am alive", and felt a brotherhood with the great predators mentioned here..(Oh, Of course , the political overtones came later while sitting in front of a warm computer... Thanks for reading ....:-) * Seymour Yes, there is a little of this in all of us...I can see it sometimes in your poetry.... Thanks for reading and commenting..:-) * G.G. Yes, there is a bit of the beast in us all...But it sometimes takes a special place and occasion to bring it out..(see comment on Marties reply).Thank you ....:-) |

MLM If you stay outside long enough in winter the animal will wake from hibernation and shake you....It is in adverse times that it becomes most alive....It is what preserves us in any harsh time, it is what makes adrenalin rush through our veins... Thanks for commenting _______ice ><> |

(big angel hugs) Oh Ford, I at first just saw this as an ice fisher sitting by himself right by the lake, then contemplating with tears slowly going down his cheeks of those who still promote war and the werewolves that still are out there in the woods! (sad sigh) Bush's visit to Martin Luther King Jr's grave has got to be one of the most hypocritical things I've heard him do yet, his principles actually are opposite of his, as Martin Luther King Jr. believed in non-violence in ending not only racial injustice, but basically all the civil rights of our society, not to mention was an intellectualist, but what is Bush? He is blood-thirsty, he is unforgiving, he has detracted many of our civil rights, and if MLK had met him, he would vomit to see what he has done! (sad sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend, thank you for speaking your heart as always, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Ford, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "You'll find something that's enough to keep you |
