A Song This humming sound comes across As a mother’s lullaby For somewhere on the wind A gay profusion Of scarlet ribbons Brings me to humming, again… In simple silence these eyes fill As one simple term now turns to all that was, and now is gone, A gay profusion Like blossoms blood red, Are haunting, just like the song Slow the melody fills the silence The humming sounds not like mine A voice, a touch From other years As a gay profusion Fills my mind Would I count these scarlet ribbons, Feel life beneath its satin? Would its deepest red Then fill my soul Though sleep Escapes my bed. Here it is, the sound once more The hum of lullabies As gay profusions Of memories Flit through Nighttime skies. If I were to live To two hundred The mystery would still be there For words such as gay profusion Would be entwined In each child’s hair. ~*~ Based on the song, "Scarlet Ribbons" [This message has been edited by Sunshine (01-13-2004 11:31 PM).] |

The beauty of this song you sing....so sad that behind it there is that slow and quiet drum.... ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸ ¸¸ºº> ~~~(¸¸ER¸¸ºº> |

I remember that song, I loved it. There was a sense of sadness here, just like the song. Enjoyed. |

Thank you, good poets. For Martie, this is a song of remembrance; and for Meghan, it was meant to once again fit along her challenge of a song's impact on one's self. |

What a beautiful, touching write... an honor to one... and a well-met challenge to another. *S* |

Thanks for e-mailing me this, otherwise I would've missed it for real. I love the way this is worded, it flows nicely, and it's catchy to my eyes. Love it. |

Hi Sunshine! My mother used to sing "Scarlett Ribbons to me when I was a child." Lovely song and an even more lovely poem! Corinne |
