(This was inspired by "The Five People You Meet In Heaven" byMitch Albol, which has touched me more than any other book I've ever ead and literally changed how I view life and love and had me flooding in tears! You must all read it, it's so beautiful

Ruby Pier is the name of Mitch's imaginary heaven on Earth (which everyone has a Ruby Pier) and where Eddie the main character grows up all his life, discovering he mattered to many when he lived after dying trying to save a little girl from an amusement park accident, and meeting five different people in heaven who offer him lessons that deeply influence him and us all!)

Yesterday I felt I was six for a while
Swaying on the lollipop swings out near the ocean
My mother held my hand and she'd tell me,
"There's no place like this, my son, just wait and see!"

Then I see I'm nineteen, staring out upon the ocean
With someone so special out on the stardust bandshell
That's when I understand what my mother told me
Her dimpled smile is what keeps me right here dearly

Heaven made me a better man
Taught me how to understand
Life is for living, thanks for letting me try
To experience it all and help me answer why

Twenty-four comes raining back down on me
Seeing tears and flame I can't begin to describe
Feeling how it is to die, or make a sacrifice
But knowing it's not so bad when you're not left behind

Forty-five comes by, I've become a lot wiser
Learning what it is to forgive and love another
And even losing grip at the hospital bed of that velvet hand I adore
Lost love is still love, and that's just what I had been waiting for

Heaven made me a better man
Taught me how to understand
What I am and teaching me why
I had deserved to be alive

Heaven taught me to love you
Even now, I feel its youth
In every wink of an eye

I see myself in all the children
Behind every pipe cleaner smile
And I don't mind the wrinkles on my face
My vision begins to get blurry
But these are the same eyes I've worn
And I still can see your face...

My last page has turned, but goodbye is not forever
And I see you again in heaven, you are more lovely than ever
High above the spires and turrets above the clouds
I know I had a home, that we can share forever together

Heaven made me a better man
Helped me to find your hand
Children, there is always time
When you believe you're alive

Heaven made you a better boy
Helped you cry and discover joy
Children, there's plenty of time
To figure out just why...

"You'll find something that's enough to keep you
But if the bright lights don't receive you
You should turn yourself around and come back home" MB20

This is just beautiful, Noah.

I have seen that book every Friday for the past 2 months at Books-a-Million (My husband and our children go there every Friday on date night).  The book has a wonderful title, and is relatively un-lengthy..."not fat", as my kids say, so I thought it would certainly be an easy piece to cuddle up with one night.  Your poem here has confirmed my desire to purchase it.  Now you all know what I'll be doing next Friday!

Thank you, for that shopper's shove, Noah!
