Something Wild

I feel a strange yearning not felt before;
An uneasy rush has taken its toll.
For something has stirred within my core;
I feel something wild has taken me whole.

Some untamed phantom has stealthily flown;
Now prowling the chambers of my locked heart
And with a grimace, though barely shown,
Taunts me to follow and forsake my part.

What apparition has disturbed my peace;
What sinister deeds it plans for my soul?
I pray to banish its presence and cease
Its bewitching spell and a conquering role.

But its cold, poisoned breath intoxicates,
And the breath of my will within it entwined;
Its razor-tipped wings would graze on the slates
Adorned with tapestry my heart designed.

It draws me to follow; its icy-gelled eyes
Cast unsevered beams of relentless force
That bind to my essence; plot my demise
In its dreadfully singular course.

Loneliness clutched my soul in its firm grip;
A bat in the darkness of forest unknown.
From shadow to shadow in anguish slip,
Where no ray of light casts upon a stone.

But a true love! -- It glows so fiery bright
And bears the power to dispel the dark
By its healing, warm, radiant light --
For that envoy of love shall find its mark.

And so an elixir brewed by the force
Of your love -- the potion of your single tear --
Descended upon that darkest source
-- And dissolved the phantom of eternal fear.

And something wild has released my soul…
It lifted from darkness into your heart
Where your true love embalmed it whole
-- And our bond shall eternal light impart.
