The Love Affair

It started as a friendship sweet,
This thing between you and me.
The bond we have, grew strong and fast;
But neither of us is free.

To give honestly of our love;
And to open up our hearts.
We both are tied to other people.
They keep us so far apart.

Whenever we meet, the times we share,
Are always as bright as the sun.
But it's not enough, can't you see?
Our lives I want to be one.

Two years you say is all you need,
To do what you have to do;
Be free to go to places far
And experience life anew.

My love for you is strong and sure.
Two years I will wait, you will see.
But in that time will you change?
Will you still be in love with me?

Will you still love me even then?
Will our love hold firmly strong?
Will it withstand the test of time?
Will I do something very wrong?

To chase you away-to make you flee
From my arms to another's side?
To make you think twice about our love?
Cause your caring to subside?

My possessive nature will surely show-
A weakness in me you will hate.
My lack of trust in your loving words
May prove to be far too great.

For us to be together then,
Many chances we will take.
Can we find all the courage, too,
To face the lives we will forsake?

We hope our families will understand
And accept this love to be true;
To know that it is so very right
And similar to only a few.

Oh, my love, I want this to work
So badly I want to scream.
I've never wished for anything so much;
To be only yours is my dream.
