Shrinkwrap you want my heart? here i’ll give it to you shrink-wrapped in merciless cellophane iced down in a champagne bucket like a bottle of asti on new year’s eve be careful not to thaw it with your love or affections icy and impenetrable is how it was meant to be don’t unwrap it with your fondling touch the crunch-crackle-crackle of the cellophane will detract you enough—at least i hope it will i don’t trust you with my heart—the baggage it carries is too much for me i needn’t burden you with its weight leave it in its packaging admire it if you must—from afar touch with your eyes—not your hands time might let you get close perhaps a sneak preview i’ll reel you in on false bait play you the best single off of my album delight in your disappointment at the fallacy of the lure then go off to chill in my icy bath |
