The song of a swan carries not to the bank
and the ripples of love remain in one place
until dreams of the young arise in the old
and upturn the calm of a static outlook.

As passion rains down, or comes from within,
the lake of the past tries hard to hold on
and settle for less than a heart knows is best
to enable the swan to feather its nest.

But thunder in sky like the swan’s own desire
rumbles and roars and calls out for more
while lightening attempts to enlighten the world
to the beauty of song and the voice of true love.

The song of the swan; soft, delicate, meek
can only be heard by those seeking the truth
and the ripples of love can’t splash at your feet
till halfway you walk with arms fully outstretched.

In the middle of need un-reliant on ground
souls nestle and touch in love’s nakedness
and force ripples to flow out and landward
to uncertain feet on the bank of belief.

And the song, yes, the song – listen how sweet
as from a drum roll it steadies and slows
to the beat of respect, compassion and care,
and drowns out the sound of disharmony.

A swan I am not but a rippled thought form
can circle in air and search beyond clouds
for a safe landing place be it forest or lake
to listen and share the song of a soul.

So look to the lake and smile at a swan,
remember to listen and maybe you’ll hear!

Helen,
this is lovely and it flows like a stream.

An excellent poem.

My comments and notes as I read:

I listened and I looked and I tried to understand

My understanding was that wings must spread and be allowed to fly, to experience.

Old habits protect themselves and enhibit honesty but youth will strike a new frontier uninhibited by what has gone before and in the freedom from rules will learn that spirit and family will endure.

It is beautiful Honeybunch.

Thanks

Dave

Thank you Kethry, Martie, Dave and Bluesy!

Yes, Dave, your understanding was pretty close.  The "experience" is the experience of "proper" love in a world where it is considered ... no, rather, not considered at all while the old hangs on.

Kethry - two of my sons are the musicians, I merely sing words to my own particular beat but I'm glad I could carry you along.

Martie - as usual, I'm so pleased that you found the time to read and comment.

Oh, Bluesy, how hard it is to find the true meaning of life and love.  I try to look deeper but at the end of the day everything still seems the same.  However, in true fighting spirit, I'm not yet discouraged.

Helen, are you a mind reader?

This touched me in a very personal way -- thank you for posting it!  It was dear and lovely.

No, Iliana, not a mind reader but I feel things and hear things and only on rare occasions can I prove things.  So what can I do but merely believe things.  I do hope this touched you in a positive way.  Thank you for reading.
