Sixteen years to echo…
And a voice that I'm still breaking in.
She told me that I shouldn't speak.

"Teach silence to the babies
Voices are for crazy ones..."
She said.

Learning how to be her,
Just so I could feed her
Grapes and morphine.

She taught me how to clean and sigh...
Guess I learned to speak and cry
Alone.

Since she died
I whisper to her picture on my shelf...
And let her call me crazy
As I stand up for myself.

He was a man of sorrows
...I am a girl of tears.

GG

They may tell you
all sorts of things
to satisfy themselves

Listen carefully
and set aside
their pain

it is not yours

Hello Alyssa

Your words were so very moving that I wished I could give you a comforting hug.  As I am unable to do that I will give you this instead......

I wish for you much love and happiness in the New Year.

Take care my friend

Sue

So much saddness and a quiet strength in your poem.

Bless your heart, it is a kind and gentle one.

Hugs GG~

Wow,
girl, this is so great.

Since she died
I whisper to her picture on my shelf...
And let her call me crazy
As I stand up for myself.

I am just taken back. You are a talent.
Who taught you that?

just beautiful!

turning mirrors upside down won't make dust fall off the ground, hiding wounds won't ease the pain, sleep won't make you whole again...

Krawdad,
you are so right. I tried to carry her pain for her, like she taught me to do, until even after she died.. and I was 12 then. Its a long journey.... thank you for your words

Sue,
it is beautiful, you are beutiful... thank you. A happy new year to you also, take care...

Blues,
You are so sweet and kind... I hope you're right. Thank you so much

Terrina,
certainly wasn't her that taught me. And I know it wasn't school. Anything good from these lips is by God alone ...I feel honored by your words, thank you.

Oh....so moving....nothing to say that does this justice, except to say I'd hug you if you were here or I were there.

You don't think nor feel young, Alyssa

and it shows in your words, the strength that is within you...
