For My Aunt

Something To Hold

It's the necessary mile to complete this journey of sleep
Wandering in a night so deep that the hours can't touch
Though my eyes should be closed to the sky I'm lying below
The stillness gives way to all tenderness I'm missing so much...

It runs deeper then any valley between two hills
Felt as strongly as any prayer from the lips of the weak
All I have is what my mind grasped that I carried back home
And, tonight, I just need something to hold til' we meet...

I have the whole night for it to lend it's hand to comfort
Memories to fill the empty space here in a place meant for two
What I would give just to lean with the weight of your presence
To see you sitting on the edge of my bed like you used to do...

When dusk rides the common path I know is coming
I die, just a little, for something to hold on through
You're the vital part of my sundown to help me reach the new dawn
And, I visualize every moment I was ever face to face with you...

The silence drowns any interruptions that tries to break my spirit
And, I dream, awake, with an extreme peace of mind
But, the feeling of what once was captures what I'm longing for
And, I can't help myself but embrace you in what I find...

It's you're subtle voice that blesses my air worlds apart
So, I take it personal when I feel it at heart
Understand, my stretch of the hand when night feels bitter cold
I wait for your fingertips in mine for something to hold...

In the mind a link sets
Dawn rears it's uncertain head
Questioning frost
Protects those frozen steps
Spirals
Threathening protection
Needed
Before warmth will arrive
