The Christmas Missive

My dear heart,
You ask if I wish for more from you,
This Christmas season.

I ask one thing.

Let us keep in our hearts
Our communiqués, please,
To know there will be
Many years still to come,
To see our written words,
To hear tinkling laughter,
To see a twinkle in the smile
Of an eye.

I will take your moments,
Lightly delve into them, to
Bring you from shadows as I can,
For it is your tenderness and willingness
To explore those regions of my soul so gently
That makes it easy to
Share myself with you.
It is that mischievousness
In betwixt and between times that
I look forward to, the gentle pulling of my leg
When you are set to bedevil me
With your wit and charm.

If there is one gift that I can give to you,
Let it be that I
May always be a light in your life; and
May you always be
The rock I seek,
My shelter in the storms.

When I say I love you,
Know it is for all of the right reasons,
For what has passed,
For what is to come,
As even friends may share
A bond of loving that no one else
Can tear asunder.
In all of the right ways,
I do care for you that much, and more.
