My annual wee elf poem, now at a baker's dozen.

Please listen one and listen all,
A simple tale, an elfin tale,
About an elf whose name is wee,
The reason why you soon shall see,
So let's commence and head up north,
To Santa's house, we'll proceed forth.

Wee elf is wee as wee can be,
In fact is barely one foot three,
Now one would think that it would stink,
To be so small that in a fall,
Instead of "thump" you just go "ump".
Wee-est elf says to himself,
I'll not be whiny, because I'm tiny,
The way I figure, if I was bigger,
I'd not be cute and worse to boot,
I'd not be wee, therefore not me.
So sets the stage for tale's engage.

One winter night, devoid of light,
Let's go play, wee elf did say,
Come on, let's go, out in the snow,
No response, there was a pause,
Until the voice of Santa Claus
Came booming out, almost a shout,
No time to play my elf so wee,
For we must trim the Christmas tree.
Gather round my north pole workers,
Santa said, let's have no shirkers,
We'll play later, there's work to do,
Wee elf, we'll play when we're all through.
Let's string the lights and garland too,
Hang ornaments, both red and blue,
And last of all, tree's crowning grace,
Atop our tree, a star to place.
Elves and reindeer worked, worked, worked,
Hanging, stringing, no one shirked,
But then alas, catastrophe,
Where'e the star to top the tree?
Elves looked high, reindeer looked low,
Where was the star? No one did know.
Mrs. Claus was in a dither,
As Old Saint Nick was running hither,
Then to the rescue came wee elf,
Said here's a star, I made myself,
If Rudolph could please life me high,
I'll place my star, at least I'll try.
Wee elf got hoisted, and then kerthump!
Rudolph dropped him, wee elf went "ump"!
Not on the floor, but on the tree,
Right on the tip-top, fell elf so wee.
Wee elf cried out, I am all right,
But I admit, it is a fright,
To be so high atop the tree,
Will someone please, come rescue me?
Mrs. Claus, said, Santa wait,
Just take a look, is not this great?
Our dear wee friend, our elf so wee,
Makes our tree cute as can be.
He's such an angel, elf so wee,
Sitting atop, our Christmas tree.

If you wonder how it came to be,
To place an angel on your tree,
At Christmas time, well now you know,
'Cause this here poem, done told you so.

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a wee night!

Absolutely fantastic, AGAIN!!! These must be published and illustrated. If I may, e-mail me that should I be given the chance, read this to youngsters at school if I get to substitute again this week???? Oh, I love it so!!! I do believe I have some adult friends that would enjoy it muchly as well. Of course your name would go with it, most assuredly.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

But wee I'm not at six foot one,
Perhaps not cute, but the goofy one?

Thank ya kindly Martie

Vas, feel free to utilize wee elf.  I have read him to local schools and enjoyed myself I am afraid more than the kids.  I have been told of a grown man dressing as an elf and getting on his knees and performing on stage as wee elf.  Happy Holidays ladies.

Tim, I agree with the others.  This must be put into a children's book!  Merry Christmas!

But the wee elf inside of you
belies your physical height.

However, if I see a grown man
sitting on a tree,
I promise I won't report you.
