The trees still drip rain from green Though they are now in fade With tinge of color showing Along center veins and edges That pretends to be unnoticed As it slowly fades of life To lie in eventual demise On rugged stone Or the litter of last years offering Now crumbled into mulch. I can sit here Staring out at water That licks its hungry lips Against broken teeth And sips the run off, Swallowing once in a while The early fallen In an oyster slick slide To the belly below And remember the days of sun Light tipped on wave In a chant of refracted colors That Gregorian soothed The inner mind But today it is acrid oak From someone’s early fire That takes me back to woodlots Filled with split piles for winter And to frost That glimmered early in weak light Then faded slow to brown Long bent days That curved into evening With only a slight notice of curve From begin to end Spent piling high the splits On which the comfort of winter Was meant to depend. I am older now And innocence no longer Colors my Falls I know each piece of split heart Burns from the life it had Before |

Well Dude, I had to open this just for the title. (Cord wood is my life...Tra La, Tra La) The only good thing about the recent flooding is the abundance of downed trees. (Some, already fractionated into managable pieces by the Utility Companies!) A good bit of readin' here Ron. Ed |
