I hope I can write this with the feeling that I have within me.... You, all of you.... Those who unselfishly have given your life...that I might have my own. That I might touch my sleeping child’s head, kissing them goodnight. I pray of you. You, all of you...That have given this day, today, that part of you which drives you, keeps you going through arduous hours, down dangerous streets... through an alley, into harms way, time and again... I thank you, I cannot say it enough. You live in places most cringe from. You wear the same clothes, the same socks, uniforms...sometimes for days. A shower is a blessing, a meal heaven, a moment of silence comforting, a day without fear....priceless. You stand in circles, mail being passed out. Your hearts racing, hungering for those words of love, of comfort. You sometimes walk away sad, wondering if they care, if they will be there when you return. You accept your orders gallantly, with great courage, great pride. You walk the valley of shadows, each step taken with the same pride as the first day you stood proudly, saluting a flag that you have supported, without a blink, without a moment of doubt as to what you, what it stood for. I want each of you there in far away lands to know that I appreciate you, I support you and I stand proudly, at attention....as I salute you, one and all.... A fellow Vet. a few days late, but still packs a punch, when this day has become overlooked and no longer a school holiday out here in NJ anyhow....... |

After knowing that a part of our men and women overseas are aware of our poetry, our words....I decided to give this meager offering....It does not compare to what Mike ('Deer) wrote, and was an unseen gift to a fallen soldier...but it is just one more piece that will show to them there are many who care... Thanx Inked.. |

"all gave some, some gave all..." Bless them all... Thank you for putting this into words; I failed in my attempt. |

It is never too late to say thank you to those who have served, are serving, and plan to serve in their future. Thank you, Barry. |

Well done Barry! I couldn't say it any more eloquently then you already have. Remember, if you're not part of the future, you're history! |

This should be sent to the White House and distributed to all the troops! My goodness, Barry, this was a "mag"nificent gesture of patriotism and show of appreciation for they who put their lives on the line each and every day to protect the rights and freedoms of people throughout the world. This warmed my heart and brought tears to my eyes. My husband is in the military. He officially retires Dec 31st, after 20 years in the Navy. He's served in more conflicts and wars than I want to count. With each deployment and every homecoming, I always thank God for watching over him and bringing him home safe. Anytime the National Anthem is played, or I see a flag flying, I can't control the tears, and sometimes the sobs. The flag represents so much more now than it did to me when I was growing up. Magnus, thank you so much for your beautiful words. I wish all Americans held the same values and sentiments that you expressed. God Bless you. You might want to read www.militarywives.com It has poetry from military members, stories, prayers...you name it. Since my husband's a doctor in the Navy, he serves more time with the Marines, so we consider ourselves to be of both branches. Happy Birthday, USMC! |
