Besting Revenge She had skinny-dipped her way through that year, flux of state that she was in, transitioning positions of who she had been, and who she was, why she was, and where, with no thought of what she might become for she had already given up having done it right for so long, those two and a half decades plus, and now this. She didn’t care. Common sense dictated she maintain degrees of responsibility, but oh how she strove to let go, and let be, wouldn’t all be better without her, hadn’t she failed, isn’t that why he transgressed the vows? She never questioned that it was he who had failed her, those years before. Attempts at holding to something as elusive as vows ~ perhaps he had crossed his fingers? No, it must have been her. She ticked off the pros. Lover Wife Helpmate Breadwinner Lover Mother Cook Maid Lover Confidant Ego-booster Lover Manager Bookkeeper Lover She looked for her cons. She could only find Consistent Conscientious Constructive It didn’t seem right, nor enough. She thought about leaving. He had. Then, she heard her baby cry. It came to her through the shadows, slipping in as easily as forgiveness that she would even have such a thought as leaving, that living was her best revenge. |
