Between the Lines

Fooled by words,
I float deficient of dare,
a let it linger care,
a ship of fantasies
filling my head
until it rains silence.

I sit awake, nerves pained
by too much other
and not enough me
to feel real...an alternate,
disguising the eyes
to escape validity.

I cannot mask for you
or you or anyone, the truth I face
each day defined by the cold that
enters my veins,
my method of coping
just useless words.

There is beauty somewhere
hibernating within,
wishing to advertise its seeking,
wishing to wear the black of sensuality
needing nourishment of love
to feed the nights
in borrowed moments of missing time.

My lips are sealed,
with no escaping this path I take,
dried tears wanting to flow,
life's deceptions winding down,
lack of courage uniquely me.

Sirens shrill their call,
my addiction keeping me here
waiting...for that smile to appear
to be touched by you,
to be understood by more than words,
by eyes that cannot turn away
from the yesterdays that were.

This is one of those some days
where you could peel my outer layers,
see within and know the answers
if only that was your quest.
For I am "Sleepless in Seattle"
reaping more than my share of sorrow,
my head echoing my state of mind
as I turn the page once more
to set out on the morrow's share.

They should only read this and then they would know...
