As evening dew dampens leaves, I creep From shadowy spot where I’ve been asleep To attend activities nocturnal Cursed by gardener as pest infernal He looks upon my lovely trail of slime As evidence of some horrible crime My consumption of his plant’s tender shoots Is my sustenance… a right he disputes! But drawn by the enticing smell of beer I’ve ignored danger, now I exude fear From the sun’s rays, I’m protected at night But darkness has hidden crystals of white Perhaps humans think this method civil But I feel my tender tissues shrivel My feeding frenzy’s forever halted When path to planned imbibing was salted. with thanks to KristieSue’s inspiring signature *G* |

I did that once -- and horribly -- by accident. While in Hawaii for the first time, I was walking to the beach one morning and found a big beautiful shell in the grass, with a living mollusk still inside. Thinking someone had been cruel to a poor reef creature, I picked it up and returned it to the water...only to watch it shrivel in agony and die. Later I found out about the giant snails -- I'd killed the thing by trying to be kind, but not understanding how. I've done that to a few people as well, including some in PIP. We think we learn, but we don't.... |

well, after my car accident, when I had no choice but to take it easy, the little one and I spent many an afternoon in the back flowerbed watching the snails...he found the bittiest one I have ever seen and let it crawl all over him...lol...you know how little boys don't mind a little bit of slime...so...now that I rambled, back to your poem...seems if you have an excess, there should be a relocation not a anialation, but then that is a snail lover's point of view.....great write lady |

Seymour: Did a little bird whisper that in your ear? LOL Thank you, my friend. *S* SEA: I don't think I could, either... I couldn't even drown them in beer hoping they'd die happy. *G* Thank you! *S* PS: The slime was the turning point... right? LOL Thank you! Jamie: I didn't mean to bring up bad memories! *S* But yes... sometimes even the best and most honorable intentions have unanticpated results of pure awful. *S* Thank you, my friend. *S* 1slick_lady: I'm glad... thank you! *S* Marge: LOL... I read her signature on a thread this morning... and the pen leapt to life. *G* Thank you so much! *S* jellybeans: I don't have any to relocate... but would find some if I could bring them to you and we'd finally meet? *G* Thank you! Krawdad: Thank you... I'm so glad! *S* Sunshine: ROFLMAO @ walnuts... you just made me snort my diet coke! LOL Thank you, ma'am... the picture is great! *S* [This message has been edited by suthern (11-04-2003 03:17 PM).] |

I would never resort to making a damn slug suffer with salt..nor waste a beer...but I do step on the little slimey vermin....(wearing my son's shoes of course)...I have considered catching them and sending them to Balladeer, he's kind of a leech/slug vermin yanno?......this is one of the most entertaining pieces I've ever read from you dear gal....sorry I didn't see it earlier....but then again, I've been too busy puking to visit..... |
