Cancer

their last breath
as the leaves of fall brown out
effort wasted
plots end known
the puffs rising despite
a last request
a weary glance
the means to an end
an end to a means
depressing me
my failures stripped into silence
my guidance a brainwashed force
of none

There's a point when going on is wrong. This is so sad. I've been in a similar situation, and I know how hard this is for you. Lovely poem, tragic subject.

Hey nadthoughts. Very well done. You managed to get my attention with this one. I enjoyed the vivid imagery. Bravo!

Hard to watch
Harder to write about
Even harder to do so later on

I am watching two people that I love dearly, slowly disappear because of the ravages of cancer. One has melanoma and we have only a few weeks left until he will be with us in spirit only. I commisserate with you, Dear M. My heart goes out to both of you.

The title captured my attention, the subject matter I have recently dealt with... I could definitely relate to the way you have described, what appears to be surrounding me lately, so well.

btw... I don't believe I noticed you smiling before in your pic, Maureen. Anyway, that is good to see!

Enjoyed!

O..I do smile once in a while..it's just hard to capture a picture of me that way since I am the one taking the picture.

Thank you for reading and responding. I haven't seen you around much.

Nancy, Linda and Michele thank you also for your thoughts.

sometimes the anger of this dispair turns into guilt b/c "we" are still here and we wonder why?  I cannot offer any words to help you feel better, but I pray, as many others will and have, that you get through this with some assurance of purpose, and realization of the significance...ugly as they seem at time.  It is so very hard, and yet, you are there for them...and in that, is the greatest gift beyond words or any meaning.  Love to you

Dear Maureen, you hurt in this tragic situation and your words are very touching.
The mystery of suffering is difficult to understand.
Love and hugs. Margherita

The addiction of smoking holds great power
over those who are within it's grasp....
Many still smoking to their last breath...
Sad...and we try to help,  but we can't...
because they have to feel that they need
it....and many don't until it is far too
late....

Frustrating, isn't it?  Hugs M.
