All I can offer are these hands like leather, From ropes, and wire, and gates, and baling twine... No mansion, fancy jewels, just us together, A life of love within these arms of mine. The house may leak on days when it is rainy- The winter winds may whistle through the cracks. It isn't much to offer such a lady- Wealth and comfort are the things it lacks. I'll never be the boss, I'll work for wages. All I will ever be is a cowhand... You'll watch my body failing, as it ages- But, babe, I'll just keep riding for the brand. You'll learn to love the smell of well-oiled leather- Of saddle soap, and horse, and manly sweat... We'll drink our coffee watching those sunrises, It is the kind of life you won't regret. I guess you've figured out, I am proposing... That we travel double-harnessed through this life. We'll mingle tears, and share each other laughter, If you will just consent to be my wife. |
