Through silent, heavy, ancient trees
the weary sunlight filters,
and traces paths of gold
across the leaf-mold.
Soft footsteps fall.
Someone comes
to hunt

peace.

Here?

Footfalls,
leaf-muffled,
send jays aloft,
frighten timid deer
who crash through underbrush
to scatter solemn shadows
and erase the sunlit pathways.

I especially like these lines:

"and traces paths of gold
across the leaf-mold."

The hunter's trek into the ancient forest is tantamount to hostile alien's invading the Garden of Eden! You have created drama in subtle ways. A beautiful piece of writing.

Krawdad- I'm so glad you liked it.

Linda- Isn't it odd how we want peace, but we destroy it in the pursuit?

(big hugggsssssssss) I love ancient forests and I sure hope we can protect all the old growths much more and hunting can be stopped to protect our brothers and sisters of the Earth! (sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Nancy, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Yes,  it is odd, isn't it...just as it does
within this poem.  Nicely written words.
Softly trodden steps that still scurry those
who inhabit the tranquil abode.

One's peace
is certainly not
always peaceful for others.

Good imagery, Nan.
Thank you!

Noah, nowadays, you go to a national forest and you're in a big parking lot. It's not a good thing.

Magnus, thanks.

Suetang, how very nice of you!

Marge, hugs back atya, girl!

Sunshine, thanks-I wanted to paint a little picture in this one.

This was great. There are so many trees and forests around here.I love coming home at night and being able to see a doe and buck crossing the road.I feel like the world is right if for just a moment. It does though sadden my heart that they are being destroyed.Well penned.

Keth, thanks!

Crystal, I envy you. I seldom get to be around woods, and I love the old trees.

passing shadows, how very sweet of you. Thanks.
