Through clouds of smoke and unsettled flames
a fire burned out of control
shadows hovering on the darkside
consumed with fear, and so faraway
afraid of how close I came one too many times.

My love burns for you eternally
You being, my three most precious gifts.

So faraway I saw the sky rocketing in orange plumes
as I blew out candles, missing you fiercely
yet so often I have wished for more
asking myself why, and at what cost
without you, I am nothing.

However imperfect we are as human beings
you are my reasons for living.

Delayed in an endless terminal
I saw a part of my life passing by
revolving through doors leading to nowhere
you were my every thought
my pride and joy, for all of my days.

While flying over dark clouds
I felt the sting in my eyes upon descent
consumed by my deep affection
and those ties that bind us.

It no longer matters how many love poems I read
or how many times my heart is broken
bittersweetness is a loss I can cut
no matter how many ways I wish.

For you are all that's important to me
and everything I hold dear, my children.

~I love you~

I hope youre mailing them each a copy

You're the color of the sky reflected in each store-front window pane ...
You're the whispering and the sighing of my tires in the rain.

Janet Marie, your heartfelt replies are very special to me.  Thank you...  I was going nuts being on the opposite end of the country while the fires were blazing out of control here in California.  Guess it took having another Birthday and making a wish that counts for everything!  I've misbehaved so badly in my life and times.  I can be a big bad witch, and you can be sure I am not too proud of it!  But it feels good to write what means the world to me,  and more importantly, I'm just glad to be home where I have always belonged.

Thank you again Janet Marie for your endless support and for caring enough to read and reply to me.  I appreciate it so much.

Bluesy,  keep this gem, lock it away...and
let them all have it as a keepsake some day.

I think they already know....but what the
hey...I also think that would be so special.

I wish my mother wrote,  that I might read
now those things I never knew...or, in my
adolescence was to busy to stop and smell
my own roses...

Barry~ Yes it's time to smell the roses and nurture those seeds with care.   They're taking on a life of their own these days, and I am afraid I've already missed so much because my heart was in the wrong place and cut back to the quick by words never meant!!  How sad and how pointless is that??    I tell you, I scare myself sometimes.  Poetry is a wonderful outlet, and this family of friends has encouraged me in so many wonderful ways, but it has also left me jaded....  Somehow I'm seeing it all in a different light, a softer pastel if you will,  that blooms on it's own, and more beautiful when cared for with love.

You're a good man Barry and I thank you for all the nice replies you have left for me.

Lori...It is not so much important for them to read this...as I think they probably already know how much you love them (as children do)  What is important is that you know it.  Hugs for this honest poem from your heart.

Dear Bluesy,  I like to think that through all the turmoil and strife of living we do eventually end up where we are supposed to be ... sometimes it isn't great getting lost in the dark but perhaps absolutely necessary and if we've never experienced love, how can we impart the meaning thereof to our children?  The greatest gift I give to mine is love but it took my leaving for them to understand and for us all to say "I love you".  We all grow through the process of change and if your growth took you meandering, do not decry it.  I wish you love, Bluesy - all kinds of love!

Awwww, Lori, this is one of the most beautiful
"love" poems I have ever read....and best of all,
it's straight from your heart.

I'm glad to hear that you're okay, my friend.
Hugs to you and your children

Thank you everyone for all your caring thoughts.  Yes, my children are a constant source of love in my life.  Like everyone, we all have our moments, (some more than others) and there lies the definition of unconditional love that lasts a lifetime. They are all that, and so much more to me.

Thank you again for reading and taking a peek at my heart.

Oh Bluesy, this indeed is so beautiful...

Our children are the one constant in our lives...they give love unconditionally and are always there when we need them...as I am sure you are always there for them when they need you.
