It was a open casket I had to greet bodies wrapped in mystery, grave diggers did seek to find the origins of figures like me how I lived near fertile, now desolate Dead Sea... as a high priest chosen to keep accounts wrapped in soaked linen, tucked in a mount where the briny cleft preserved my flesh kept the record of death so very fresh.... I'd arise in angst against the robber of the tomb who'd enter break my seal, the privacy of the room and follow him as he laid eye on my sceptre and ankh into the crisp night, he fled, unaware of my rank.. that I'd follow the grave robber for centuries down the road there was n'er a single peace for his kind in any abode cause he held those instruments which had kept my rule now he'd be taught a lesson from a wrapped mummy's school. Archeology has always intrigued me - and yet I have a deep respect for the dead and buried, and wish not to disturb the remains. Yet...we learn so much, and science slogs on. Interesting poem, Martin. It got my mind going off in other directions. Thank you. |

The tone of this one is certainly in good keeping with the spooky season! lol As I was growing up, I fancied the idea of becoming either an archeologist or a paleontologist ~ in the end I opted for a profession that worked on live bodies. Instead of bringing dead bodies to "life", I now work on preventing live bodies from becoming dead! This was an excellent write, Dear Writer! HHH EA |

Karilea, It does us well to respect the living and the dead, yes.. Sy, appreciate your read Linda, Like your wit here, yes you've chosen to work with the living..and that's not an easy job. |
