Some times when I am playful,
trying to make light of danger,
I trip over my own nervous laughter
and end up wearing nothing
but a stupid grin,
a skinned knee,
a bruised ego,
with a dangling participle of a brain
looking for a place
to hide.

But I’ve found
‘tis better to laugh than to cry
when the world is flipping
me off
upside down.
