A dead soldier speaks to his child

Trace my name upon the stone,
As you play beside my grave.
The father you have never known,
Who people say was very brave.

Older now you need to know,
Searching for a simple truth.
You ask again,"Why did you go?"
"Why did you sacrifice your youth?"

If you should come to know,
If this truth is known to thee.
With pity to my grave side go,
Dear child:Tell me,tell me!

Very powerful write here Michael.
Leaves the reader much to ponder...I like that in a piece.

Michael,  a moving poem...so real,  even
today..  So many children standing,  asking
why...

Thanx for writing this poem...

War is a battle that takes our young.
While we stand back and weep for the young father, son, friend, and brother. So sad.
Sad poem.

What a strength in this.
It quietly speaks
to so many wrongs.

Thank you, Arthur.

Greetings, Arthur!

These are the questions left behind:

"Why did you go?"
"Why did you sacrifice your youth?"

The answers don't come easy if at all.

When you have time, please drop by to read, 'Ripply isle cry'.

Cordially,

Castlehigh of Éire
