Shoal waters sleeping beneath indigo seas, awaiting rend of wooden hulls. Gentle swells caressing, lightly teasing the bow as trade winds fill billowing sails guided by ancient stars upon a night of sailor’s dreams. Soft creak of wooden planks, swing of the clapper teasing a forged bell... Eight bells....all is well. A single lantern, red light taunting foamy crests.....red, right, returning, a mariners whispered words. Temptation to swing the helm, shift the jib to starboard. Thwarted by tendrils of a lighthouse beacon washing over the shallow shoal.. Shoal waters beyond the naked eye of straining faces, lead line falling silently into waters, searching depths till the mark is shouted loudly to the helm. Steady she goes, as a long wooden hull glides smoothly onto the crest and softly slides down a swell. Onward passage, past whispering shoals, into fathoms safe, as sailors dream a hearty taste of fine ale and soft curves... As dolphins push the bow and wings of flying fish guide salty winds on canvas sails.... Red sky at night....sailor’s delight [This message has been edited by Magnus (10-21-2003 10:34 PM).] |

LOL@Michele! Barry~Two things gave away that this was indeed a long time ago...The wooden hull (I think the minesweeps were the last to sport wood, as far as ships are concerned) and the ale! I loved it because being out to sea is such an experience and you bring it to life! Susan "if you won't let me fall for you |
