FEW AND FAR BETWEEN
Too many times now-a-days
We're just a name in the file -
It's, "Fill out this and have a seat."
"The Doctor will see you in awhile."

We sit and wait and wait and wait
While we're hurtin' and feel ill -
A sign by the reception desk -
"PLEASE PAY TODAY", about the bill.

Finally our name is called -
Down the hall and through the door -
Then once in the exam room
We get to sit and wait some more.

Eventually, the Doctor comes
To listen, poke and prod
And some of them seem to think
They are some kind of God.

We come for help, compassion -
We hope to find a friend
Who really cares about us -
Who'll bring our pain to an end.

But most the time, it's sad to say
It's, "Out of sight and out of mind."
They are few and far between -
Docs like those, old-fashioned kind.

Abe~
For MANY you've sure summed it up~
BUT ... I'm here to tell ya' about a good 'old fashioned doc' who practices just up the road a piece from me.

He's 81 years old ... gets up at 5:00 a.m., walks 9 miles, goes home, showers and gets ready for his morning SURGERIES at the hospital ... then off to his office for a full day of seeing patients.
Comes into the waiting room to personally greet patients and those who brought them in.

His name is Kenneth M. Wing, MD - he's truly a rarity in the world of medical practice as we know it today.

But, sadly ... for the most part your piece does reflect the way it's done by most these days.

Have a happy~

Well, don't you look dapper in your finery!

This poem rings so true ~ and far too often! As a nurse, I get disillusioned myself!--both professionally and personally. ---Too many patients and too little time.

I remember how it was when I was a little girl and our family doctor was just that--family! He not only cared for our health--he cared for us!
