Within the veil of clinging mist does lie the fear of walking gloom A stormy night that does persist as lightning flashes in the room What does the night of dark now bring this dread of what is not once seen. As winds in gusts the rafters sing and shutters clash in darkness sheen. A knock does come upon the door to bring a start from beating chest. Who could this be at half past Four? Can not they see is time to rest? A shadow falls upon the pane of window yon beyond the light As sheets do pelt the pouring rain upon this dark and dreary night. A candle’s light is all that stands betwixt the doom beyond the veil. As I now sit upon my hands in hopes the knock will not prevail. When from the gloom and roaring howl does come a whispered word to ear. From deepest part the churning bowel I listen twice in shaking fear. Hark! Now shouting again once more My lips now fail to crest the gale. Is this that bird of Nevermore? Or is this just the waiting mail? The dark does give way to the day as winds now cease and lie to rest Was but the mail I hate to say that put my heart to beating test... |

THE MAIL......... What kind of postman comes at 4 in the morning? Dark shadows and errie sounds, gusting winds. No,no, no I'm not going to answer the door. No.no,no. I'm a chicken. What was the name of that scary movie The Postman Knocks Twice? Good Jobber Bon-Bon |

The Chocolate Monster just flew in again. It was I knocking upon the door looking for my Chocolate. The Chocolate Monster strikes again. |

It was the postman weak and frail, afraid and lost in utter dark. He frantic-knocked with scads of mail, but you came not and hounds did bark. In fear he threw the letters down and ran back into storm and gale. So now your friends have gone to town, and you don't know about the SALE. I enjoyed your spooky story. Nan (Pilgrim variety) |

Love this...but it made me grin thinking of a postman at 4 in the morning. Must of been the postman to the dead. I would not answer the door...at least not without a 44...maybe a trained doberman...and a crucifix...just in case. Wonderful poem...glad I got the chance to read it this morning. Remember, if you're not part of the future, you're history! |
