Holding hands when you know you will have to let go Starting conversations that you know will end Its so hard in a world where you always have to say goodbye Theres more parting than starting I know you have to move on When death knocks on your door But how is it that people can walk away and forget A person that meant so much Evil diseases cause threats and kill Many people spend there last few days here being ill Why Cant we stop Take the power out of disease Let us rest in ease Its so hard to let go of someone you love Although that time comes sometime why do we have to watch them decrease slowly because of something like cancer or aids? Its time we stop these dreadful diseases Because although you think it cant happen to you or someone you love It can And it strikes without worning Comment-I know this is very VERY different from my other poems it actually kind of sounds like a commercial asking for money to help fight cancer or aids I didnt mean to make it sound that way its just I feel very strongly that if we work hard someday we will find a cure for these heartbreaking diseases. I recently lost my grandmother to cancer and I went to the nursing home every night to visit her. Each night it felt like I was seeing a different person, she kept getting thinner and thinner until she was nothing but a skeleton. It was so hard to watch but to imagine how the person going through it is feeling is unbearable-just to know you are going to die is unbearable so I hope you can understand this poem from that view. |

I am sorry for your loss, Sarah. I know the pain of losing a loved one, several times over. I don't think it gets easier for us no matter what age we are. Possibly, you'll become one of those who can work on the research to find the cure. That would be a good thing. Thank you for sharing such an emotional poem. |
