Book of Loving Memories As I sit upon the porch swing and watch darkness ascend, I sit and listen to the gentle rain. The rain reminds me of bacon frying in the big old cast iron skillet my mother used for so many tasty delights, the pineapple- upside- down cake, cornbread, pork chops crisp and tender. As I continue to sit upon the porch swing the smell in the air is fresh and clean, with a light delicate fragrance of perfume from the rose, or the magnolia blossom, or maybe from the freshly mown grass on the front lawn. As I sit and swing, the neighbor children begin to play in the warm summer rain. Hands held high, spinning around and around, smiling, running, jumping with laughter, and singing a merry tune they have learned from where, they do not know. As I sit on this old swing, I think of past memories of parents now gone, children grown with families of their own. The children, I hope, will remember the contentment, the relaxation of good conversation, and the laughter of a silly joke. When the time comes, may they also have a porch swing. Then they too can build there Book of Loving Memories. Bonnie J. |
