The Crocodile Tears

"Where's blanket?" she asks, and my heart it breaks,
As I answer her, "He needed washing."
Yet why should she suffer for dads’ mistakes?
Perhaps ‘tis daddy that needs a squashing.
Then the crocodile tears spring to her cheeks,
And feeling stupid I hug her tightly,
While whispering words to quiet the shrieks,
Which other parents might call unsightly.
With a soft smile I pledge to mend the wrong,
And then speed forth to the laundry-room,
And though it does not seem I’m gone long,
It’s an hour before life can resume.
Like a herald carrying some item,
I convey my treasure back up the stairs,
Only to observe that my little gem,
Has taken my bedding to make repairs.
Like an angel asleep she’s cuddled in,
One last time I kiss her and then lay down,
And though it is cold I can’t help but grin,
For my princess mended her broken crown.

I'll be keeping this one. It gave me a smile, remembering a similar 'tragedy' years ago.

Thanks midnitesun. Dad forgot all about blanket the other night. Just had to write it down before the idea slipped away.

Dad won't forget about 'blankie' again, will he? LOL, but isn't it a great feeling, to know YOU have the power to avert/prevent a tragedy?

I loved this and I know she cherishes her daddy as all little girls do.

Awww, Kevin, this is so beautiful....not only the poem with the words, but also the thoughts and the tenderness and love that you wrote it with. I could feel the love you have for your little girl. This was so sweet.
Hugs to you and your little one

Do I ever remember those moments.  Yes,
sometimes Dads don't remember what is so
awfully important to them.

Hang Loose,  there is more to come,  that I
can assure you of!

Thanx for sharing this, very nice.

Those moments are so traumatic, aren't they, such a small thing that is so important, and so nice to see that Dad was thoughtful and understanding and (even though he actually did forget, lol) he did what he could to make her happy.. She sounds precious.

this is the kind of thing I have trouble making words for.

And the angel said unto me, "These are the cries of the carrots, the cries of the carrots!"
