Damnation of Love

A lonely night, love in the air
As a mysterious gentleman gazes a stare
At a sad quiet woman, sitting, awaiting
Intoxicated by the juices of alcohol anticipating
That someone will take notice, give her a chance
Perhaps, take her hand, inviting her to dance

In the twilight, soft, peaceful serene
Too long a time she has waited to be seen
As more than a tall, curly haired girl
The alcohol buzz is making her head swirl
The man is approaching with arms open wide
The tall slender girl runs to hide
From the people who see her as worthless and plain
The ones who made this girl insane
With the fear that she will mature to be
A bitter old woman, never filled with glee

The kindly soul sweeps her away
From the mangled mess, from this disarray
Of negative feelings, and makes her feel
As if she were perfect, as if she were real
Little did they know this feeling would end
When a year and a half later they would reach a bend
In the road not taken, by this naive girl
A road of sorrow, the emotions it hurls

She would be nothing more than a trophy to him
The future appears happy but it will quickly grow dim
With a year's worth of lies, betrayal and deceit
At the road's end, she will see her defeat
Her heart on her sleeve, that inebriated night
Will bring her to this moment, this endless plight

I agree with you Jewels, I've been down that road.  When you reach that point in life, you just have to look on into your future, and see if there is any room for happiness without that lover.  Like they say, there are better fish in the sea
