the year we met i saw supernovas in your eyes. and i thought you were so beautiful. but you looked at the ground alot. one eye on your shoe and one eye on the exit. and those mellowed greens of yours went unnoticed. i stuck around for music and because you made me laugh. and we had the year of our lives. and we loved each other because you were my muse, and i was your eclipse. the carpet burned our elbows, but we laughed so hard. bed folds and ben folds consumed us. we always loved to sleep. the world was ours for the taking. but then reality took us by surprise. and the world was not so rosy anymore. we cried fiery tears. we cried for each other. but we would not cry for ourselves. we stepped on a storm that year. then you started calling yourself "new pretty." because found yourself your first boy and lots of smiling faces. and you started wearing mascara like an addiction. and everytime you said something clever, i could tell you'd been planning it for a week. you haven't cried since then, not even just because. so here we are, two septembers since every song on the radio was ours. with our own lives on our sleeves and in our strategically curled eyelashes. eyes with pride. but underneath all the dust, when your smile wasn't a lie through your teeth, i still remember there were supernovas in your eyes. i saw them when you thought you were ugly. and even when everything was wrong, and we were mad at the world, it was still beautiful. |
