In the light his eyes seem so clear.
Head down, ears back and tail down
contemplations cross his mind.
I stare him in the eyes
fearless yet afraid
I see the pain he suffers.
Those yellow eyes tell me of
the places he has been.
Those blood covered ears
tell me of his recent conflict.
Still I speak to him.
His black fur so well taken care of
tells me of the care he has for his appearence.
Showing no threat he approaches slowly.
As I reach for him thoughts
of a surprise attack haunt my mind.
As he sniffs my hand I assure him
that I mean no harm.
I offer my last bit of food
and keep my distance as he
finishes off that ham sandwich.
It's a privalage to have been
in the reach of a wild canine
with such superiority and strength.

(big hugggssssssss) This is just a loving and precious debut, sweet friend, I love all animals and gifts of Mother Nature and I am blessed to hear of this wonderful thing you did for this wolf's life! (smiles) In my trive, the Cherokee take great value and pride in the spirit of the wolf, which represents cunning and freedom, I thank you for this sentiment! God Bless You, sweet friend, I love it! Welcome to Passions, sweet RunningWolf, may you be inspired by all of us here as we will all be inspired by your lovely words! I can't wait to read more of your magnificent poetry, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

All creatures are special...
some, seem to hold a power over us...
horses, wolves, lions...but a few...

keep the magic.
It wears well.

Welcome to passions. I really enjoyed this piece, and understand the kind of moment you wrote about. For me, it was also a wolf on my first encounter, then a cougar, then raccoons, then twin orphaned moose. Each time the experience was different, but each time, an emotional gift.
But I also found that most wild animals seem to feel threatened by direct eye-to-eye contact with humans, and sometimes attack even when offered a gift of food or friendship. I also reacted the same way you did that first time, and was lucky to have had that critter rest safely on my porch for nearly a week until his 'master' recovered from his dislocated shoulder and retrieved him. But I rarely look them straight in the eye anymore, and feel safer keeping my gaze 'alongside' the head.

Wow, I rarely write such a long response.

WELCOME to Passions!

the wolf
has a beautiful spirit.

happens to be my favorite.

ahh once again another well detailed script. do you just like write out your days in poetic form?
probably gave you an idea huh? probably gave lots of people an idea. im sure you can get a sequal to this one. maybe you could write it so like it describes what you learned from the experience. thats my opinion though.

your words make me see images and not just a bunch of confusion.

hope to see more of your work soon.

buhbye

hey all thanks for the comments. im not sure if i will put anymore poems on this site since i get easily confused with it. seems there is so much to do for one poem.
runningwolfslilgirl i added your suggestion to spilled ink 2. think i will call it leaky pen. by doing so it will not seem like a never ending thing.
thanks again. sure hope i can get over to your place lil girl cause i want to see everyone again before winter.
