a voice from the musicbox

the floor is moving in circles around the spot where i softly perch
i heard a voice in the back of my mind that made my mad heart lurch
echoes of long lost loves crumble with the minutes made of clay
summers and winters, the best times of my life, and friends i lost along the way
the walls curl inward to hear my stories of faded childhood dreams
as i lament the dreaded awkward years i owe to acne and ice cream
and every song on the radio sings growing up is hard to do
well that's not what i'll be telling people when i'm through
the teenage story's a simple one with a complicated twist
some end with golden memories, some end with slitted wrists
some are prettier than others and those are fairy tales
for all teenage veterans know teenage hearts are frail
and when teenage hearts break the whole world weeps but one things comes about
the spark in the eyes of our passionate years light our fragile route
and we can build around all the decaying lessons that we've learned
until we come to the end of our winding roads to look back on bridges we've burned
and though some of us will reach 20 with less damage than all the rest
it's those of us with scars to show who have lived our years the best

minutes made of clay. I like this line. Like time standing still, once time passes by. All left as it was, still and made of clay. Of course the clay being whatever. Enjoyed the write.
