The Play Just Got A Bad Review |

I suppose I should tell you, that I know you lied, to me, told hasty sloppy lies as truths I'm sure you thought I'd rather hear than see who you really are. I did know better than to believe you; I have seen the way you play with all the others in your life. Is that ego or what? To think that you could lie to everybody else, but not to me. Maybe you were right in concept, the basic principle of keeping those around you happy is useful in a very realistic way; I'll get out some of the pain by painting it inside this poem, but I know I will never say to you that I know all the lies, just as I know I'm a better actor than you'll ever be. It wouldn't do me any good to tell you. Hell, I am here alive and free just because I can turn wildest bits of make believe into someone's safe reality. I just thought I was done with all of that when I met you. I must be getting careless in my dotage to believe that I would ever be completely free of needing to maintain the living theater of the heart. It's such a useful workshop, like a castle full of parts. I wonder if I can live inside the role you have defined for us. You don't even seem to know how close the boundaries are, the lights too free to move about the stage too small, that one day without doubt you will turn and fall right off the edge; you ask me for magic like it is just another toy to spin the world around you to your liking, without a care that in creating all your petty momentary joys so many other worlds will be destroyed. ©2003 by icebox |

I have known this angst, and yes, written it here. It does help a bit, though it also hurts in unexpected ways. I can tell you though, that while it may be true, the feeling describing objective truth, it may also be something else altogether. Trouble is, you never can be entirely sure whether you're looking through a window, or into a carnival mirror...... ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸ ¸¸ºº> ~~~(¸¸ER¸¸ºº> |

Icebox, that's tellin' it, like nothing else can. I think Ratleader's comments are interesting, too. I know the kind of person you are writing about. I know what I don't wish to be...and hope I never would. Back to your writing...I love the way you do this. ~K~ |

Dear Icebox, How forcibly you bring home to the reader so many aspects of life and the people we share, and have shared, our lives with. Thank you! |
