The big ol’ house sat on the slow rise
of a corner lot spread of substantial size
with a white picket fence that seemed to run
for miles and miles ‘round thirty-four-oh-one.

My old Granddad loved to work in the sun,
he’d work in that yard 'til the day was all done,
tendin’ the roses and mowin’ the grass,
his yard, a likeness that none could surpass.

When Granddad walked out in his yellow straw hat,
I found me a spot in the garden and sat
right down there and dug my two hands in the dirt
and helped him pull weeds ‘til my fingers hurt.

“Watch out for them thorns,” my Granddad would say,
“they protect the beauties, it’s the Lord's way,”
then once all the weeds had been pulled from that space,
he’d snip a bouquet for my Grandma’s best vase.

Well, Grandma, she’d smile and then praise what we’d done,
then scold us, we’d spent too much time in the sun,
but the laugh from my Granddad and my Grandma’s wide grin
made me want to do it all over again.

I love this poem....all of it. I just didn't want to

very nice telling... I've read several of yours and see you have a knack for telling the stories in rhyme and with heart.

I enjoyed
