no wonder you played and stayed
as long as you did...
and did you think
I was unaware of
the brew beneath the lid?

Struggling with issues
and doubting myself, it seems
everything’s out of sync;
every emotion
is stuck in my head...
orange and yellow and pink.

Indecision, anxiety, fear....
in the doorway
of stay or go;
can’t decide, and it makes me cringe
at these words
that I've come to know.

The pact between us
once stronger than vows;
we’ve forgotten what “love you” means.
How long had it been missing
before you decided
that I should leave?

“Work on it, everything
is just fine”
I hold my head in my hands.
What made me stay
as long as I did
guarding the old golden bands...

watching them slip from our hands...

counting the years in the sands...

wow, keeping this. so many great lines.made me think of the beatles song, we can work it out. my ex used to refer to this song, saying we could always work it out, and when we did need to? he made no effort. forgot the promise HE made ME make.
