Listening to every heart

Turns on a Day

“Loving sunshine, I have lately been
as satisfied beneath skylights
as I have beneath stars.
Only the rain worries me.
I worry that it won’t come.
I worry that it will.”

Ron McKuen - from "Celebrations of the Heart", 1973

…and that was when I climbed
the garret of his mind
shelving myself between
parchment and ink

whispering someday

someday I will write…

for I had been called sunshine
and was loved as sunshine
by the he in my life,
as much as the rain
but with less worry…

he should have worried.

He should have worried that just as
sunbeams can leak through
blinds,
shadows of thought can leak
back out

so when it rained
and the river rose
as rivulets streamed down
the banks

he banked his dollars elsewhere.

In the morning sun
he was still wet
and his change hung heavy

but parchment doesn’t lie
even though, at times,
ink bleeds,

even after it has dried.

Interesting, how long ago
turns on a day.

Oh this is fine! It's bringing me a sense of today as a day that might bring that turning, and that someday might be the past that's turned by yet another day.

As long as you can trace the outline of those letters, it doesn't matter that the ink may run. In fact, it may make the words more beautiful for the distress of time they show.

Send me a verse sometime, eh?
